Therapy for depression

We all feel sad/in pain from time to time, it is a common and natural emotion. However at times, this sadness and pain can increase, become persistent and difficult to explain. This could be a sign that you are suffering from depression. Depression is a disorder/illness that is characterised by excessive sadness, loss of interest in enjoyable things, low motivation, hopelessness about the future and a sense that no one can help. The good news is that with appropriate treatment most people with depression can make full recovery.

Anxiety

Feeling anxiety is natural and desired as it protect us from danger or help us perform. However, some people find hard to control anxiety, worry. These feelings are more enduring and affect their daily lives, sometimes severely. Appropriate treatment helps manage excessive anxiety.

Talking treatments: My knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling allows me in collaboration with you to tailor an individual treatment plan that best meet your needs.

The way these therapies work:

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

CBT aims to help you understand your thoughts and behaviour, and how they affect you. CBT recognises that events in your past may have shaped you, but it concentrates mostly on how you can change the way you think, feel and behave in the present. It teaches you how to overcome negative thoughts – for example, being able to challenge hopeless feelings.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, a therapist will encourage you to say whatever is going through your mind. This will help you become aware of hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may be contributing to your problems.

Counselling

Counselling is a form of therapy that helps you think about the problems you're experiencing in your life so you can find new ways of dealing with them. Counsellors support you in finding solutions to problems, but do not tell you what to do. You can talk in confidence to a counsellor, who supports you and offers practical advice.
