How therapy works

Therapy is a collaborative process between client and therapist.

We will work towards a goal agreed between us which will facilitate personal change and acceptance. This often but not always involves exploring your past to understand the sources of present difficulties but with the aim of empowering you to move forward.

This process involves tailoring therapy to your individual needs to represent the uniqueness that we all present. This can be achieved in brief work or in long term work. For some clients learning strategies to overcome a specific issue is sufficient but for others, understanding the origins of the difficulties and how to support self to get from where they are to where they want to be is their therapy focus.

I work with a range of therapies

I draw on aspects of Counselling and Psychology more specifically Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dynamic interpersonal therapy (DIT) Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Person Centred, and Psychological Life Coaching. I most typically work with:


Anxiety and panic attacks




Relationship difficulties

Self growth

Low self-esteem

Work-related issues

Adjustment issues

Burn out

Overall emotional problems

Therapy Process / Consultations:

Before entering the therapy process, we can have a free 15 min phone conversation to understand briefly what the difficulties are, how we can work together and if you see yourself working with me.

We then arrange for an extended meeting to discuss in depth your needs and to provide an outline treatment plan for your consideration. This session will confirm further if we work well together on a personal basis.

I am bilingual and offer my services in English and Portuguese.

Covid -19

At these prolonged challenging times many people are struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, relationships, conflict, isolation loss of income or bereavement.

Many of these situations require the support of a psychologist to help manage these feelings and support you throughout the distress. Together we can think how best I can help to reduce your distress.
